The Ukrainian team Passion UA announced on social media that Vsevolod "s-chilla" Shchurov is leaving the roster to take a break for an indefinite period. The news attracted attention as s-chilla became an important part of Passion UA's success, especially after their impressive performance at the RMR in Europe.
Passion UA became a true sensation, advancing through the challenging RMR bracket, where they defeated giants like Virtus.pro, Spirit, and Astralis. Their vibrant play at the Shanghai Major only fueled interest in the team. Despite losses to GamerLegion and Wildcard, this tournament run elevated Passion UA to a new level.
Statement from s-chilla and the Coach's Reaction
In his interview before leaving, s-chilla shared that the decision was not sudden. Here's what the player said:
It wasn't sudden. Last summer, when we were playing, even before the RMR, I realized that this routine, everything happening around me, I didn't like. From May to August, I knew I didn't want to continue living like this; I wanted to change something. I don't know if this will be a good or bad decision, but I just want to try, and then we'll see. But it's my decision.
This is my problem. We all tried to do our best, but this routine doesn't suit me personally. I want to develop in other areas of my life and take a break.
When I decided to take a break, I understood that I still had to give my utmost, to help the guys because they deserve it. I wanted to help them as much as I could, but they need a fully motivated teammate, someone better at mechanics or with a more suitable character.
s-chilla's statistics for 2024 as part of Passion UA
The team's coach Mykhajlo "Kane" Blaghin characterized him as a reliable and talented teammate in his Telegram channel: "An excellent player. Perhaps because he kept most emotions to himself, it led to such a decision. Sometimes players are asked: your best teammate? Seva will definitely remain on my list of the best. He leaves our team as a winner, and I hope he conquers many more peaks!"
The Passion UA roster now looks as follows:
What's Next for Passion UA?
The departure of s-chilla poses a serious challenge for Passion UA, especially with player contracts signed in November extending until 2027. Moreover, the CEO Artemiy Ryabov previously stated that the organization would not hinder players moving to bigger teams.
Now, Passion UA needs to find a replacement for s-chilla and maintain the positions they have worked so hard to achieve this season. The question of the team's future remains open, but one thing is certain: the departure of a key player is not an end, but merely a new chapter in Passion UA's history.
