Riot Games have released a video in which the head of Valorant esports, Leo Faria, shares the first details about the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024, including a new region, the schedule of upcoming events, integration of the in-game Premier mode into esports, and updates to Challengers.
Regular season of the top league
The new season of Valorant Champions Tour 2024 will start in February next year, with the first stage being a kick-off tournament held in each region. This will determine the participants for the first Masters tournament, which will take place in Madrid. More information can be found here.
After Madrid, international leagues await in each region. Valorant will introduce a new region - China. More details can be read in our article. Along with the new region, there are now four:
- EMEA
- America
- Pacific
- China
The league is divided into two parts. In the first part, teams will compete for slots at the second Masters in Shanghai. The second part will focus on accumulating new "championship points", which we will detail below, and the prize pool. There is currently no information about the prize money for any of the tournaments.
How teams will qualify for Valorant Champions 2024
The season, as before, will conclude with the Valorant Champions 2024 world championship, but with changes made to the team selection process. In 2023, each region had a certain number of slots for the world championship, but in 2024, teams will be selected based on "championship points" ranking. Teams participating in the kick-off, Masters, and international leagues will earn points, and the top 16 teams will go to Valorant Champions 2024.
Challengers Update
Challengers is a league where teams compete for a chance to enter the top league. From 2024, this league will be held throughout the year. Challengers is divided into two splits, after which the best teams from the region will compete in Ascension for a slot in a partner team. Riot Games plans to host two splits next year, Ascension and another split, with the second split planned for 2025.
Integration of the in-game Premier mode
The in-game Premier mode successfully passed its final tests and will become part of the Valorant esports scene at the start of the new season. Tier-3 and lower teams will compete for a chance to enter the Challengers league. The details of this process have not yet been revealed. Currently, the exact details of how this will be implemented remain unknown.
