PGL announced the first Major in the history of Counter-Strike 2.
Valve's first official tournament for the new game will be held in Copenhagen at the Royal Arena, where BLAST events are regularly held. This will be the fourth CS PGL Major, and the first ever Counter-Strike 2 Major.
The first Major in Denmark
PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen will be the first Major in Counter-Strike 2 and Denmark's first Valve CS event. Denmark is one of the most important countries for CS because it has always had the largest concentration of professional players. They have been asking for a Major in Copenhagen for a long time. Their wish was finally fulfilled.
At the same time, PGL has chosen the perfect stadium for a tournament of this level. BLAST has repeatedly shown us how good this arena is for CS tournaments. The capacity of 20,000 people will allow many fans to watch the Major live. However, fans already have questions about PGL.
PGL is not the best tournament operator
The community has a lot of questions about PGL as a tournament operator. This also applies to the format of the tournament coverage, technical problems, and the general feeling of the event. Criticism intensified after PGL Major Antwerp 2022 when for the second time in a row, PGL held the same event as PGL Major Stockholm 2021. Even the stickers were identical, and no interactions with the players in BLAST and ESL were planned.
Technical problems also did not go away - matches were delayed and paused regularly. Also, there were no innovations, as, for example, at the IEM Rio Major 2022, where the audience appeared already at the tournament's group stage. Majors from PGL were poorly remembered and looked gray compared to other tournaments. We hope that next year everything will change.
When will PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen be held?
PGL has already announced the dates of the first Counter-Strike 2 Major. The tournament will be held from March 17 to March 31.
