A tiny number of players guessed the tournament's champion.
Only 0.1% of players received the IEM Rio Major 2022 Diamond Coin in CS:GO. This is the lowest ratio among all recent Majors.
The leetify portal calculated the ratio of players with different medal levels at IEM Rio Major 2022. According to the results of the calculations, it became known that only 0.1% of players could get a diamond medal, 62% earned a gold medal, and 38% got a silver medal.
Compared to the other recent Majors, this ratio looks especially dramatic. For example, at PGL Major Antwerp 2022, 11% of players received a diamond medal, and at PGL Major Stockholm 2021 - 57%.
Why Does the Ratio Look Like This?
If you compare the IEM Rio Major with other major tournaments, it becomes obvious that the last event from Valve was highly unpredictable. There was no clear favorite at the tournament, and all the teams considered the event's favorites before its beginning were eliminated either in the group stage or in the quarterfinals. And the tournament champions were the Outsiders, with almost no bets. Just look at the playoff bracket:
At the same time, one of the favorites won the other Majors. For example, PGL Major Antwerp 2022 was held during the dominance of FaZe, who won the event. And the massive percentage of PGL Major Stockholm 2021 diamond coin players is explained by NAVI's colossal fan base and their dominance at that time. In the fall of 2021, Natus Vincere won all tier-1 tournaments and the Intel Grand Slam.
Should We Expect the Same Unpredictable Results At the Next Major?
The next Major will be held only in six months in Paris. It will be held by BLAST. Currently, there is still no obvious dominant team on the scene. However, anything can happen in six months, and, most likely, two or three teams will appear on the tier-1 scene, which will be ahead of all others, and they will fight for the championship, as it often happens at Major tournaments.
This makes the IEM Rio Major even more unique.
