The Brazilians from MIBR were unable to participate in the second open qualification at IEM Sydney in their non-native European region - ESL removed the team from the qualifiers.
In the official Twitter'e team management admitted that there was a misunderstanding about the rules of participation in qualifying.
It is noteworthy that FURIA managed to get the "green light" to participate, being a team from South America, but in the end the squad failed to qualify for the closed qualifiers. The club previously relocated the roster to Europe for better preparation for the big tournaments.
What is the procedure for changing region?
At the beginning of 2023, ESL made the process of changing regions more complicated - now a "move" can be made only every 120 days, counting from the first official match at the new location. This also requires prior authorization from the tournament operator, which MIBR has not received.
Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2023 will be held from October 16 to October 22, 2023. The prize fund of the championship amounted to $250,000. A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament, and the winner of the tournament will receive a direct quota to IEM Katowice 2024.
