Last night, the final of the RES Western European Masters between Metizport and Apeks took place. This Swedish confrontation was an important match - the winner will have the opportunity to go to the BLAST Spring Showdown. The match lasted all three cards and turned out to be very tense.
The game started with a bang. Metizport quickly took the lead on the Mirage map and gained a 10-2 advantage in the first half. With such a strong start, it seemed necessary to cross the finish line - Apeks managed to get only four rounds before the map ended with a score of 13-6. Despite this, Apeks' Tim "nawwk" Jonnason had a good performance, tying with opponent Linus "nilo" Bergman with 21 kills and an 8.1 rating. However, Apeks did not give up. The first half on the Ancient map was more fierce, with the score tied at 6-6. The rounds went back and forth before Apeks took a 12-10 lead. Joaquin "jkaem" Mirbostad put in an impressive performance with 29 kills and an 8.5 rating.
Adam "adamb" Angstrum decided to take matters into his own hands on Inferno. With 17 kills in the first half, he did his best to give Metizport an 8-4 lead. Apeks won both the pistol and the next round on the CT side, but there was no more response. Even with nawwk's attempts, adamb continued to dominate and the map ended 13-6 in favour of Metizport.
Qualification for the BLAST Spring Showdown is a historic one for Metizport. This is the first time that the team will participate in a tournament where most of the participants belong to the world's elite, as ten of the sixteen participating teams are BLAST partners. The loss undoubtedly hurts nawwk, who finished the match with a 7.1 rating.
The BLAST Spring Showdown 2024 will take place from 6 to 10 March, with the winner receiving a slot at the BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024, which will be held at Wembley Arena in London, and $20,000.
