Spirit, Astralis upset, as CPH Flames, FaZe Clan improve to "1-0"

The lowest seeds with the wins.

The opening day of the competition.

PGL Major Stockholm 2021 has finally begun! Two rounds of the first stage are going to be played tonight with every matchup bringing the heat to the server.

The Danish derby between the reigning Major winners Astralis and their local rivals, Copenhagen Flames expectedly ended up on Overpass, as the latter did not want to let Nuke through and the former could not be bothered bringing Vertigo or Ancient into a best of one roulette. A good start by Astralis on their offence, however, was squashed with some force buy holds by Copenhagen Flames, as they switched sides with the “9-6” in their favour. That did not help the favourites either, as Copenhagen Flames kept their foot on the pedal and swept the second half for the “16-6” finish, keeping their dominance in the best of one format and dropping Astralis to a “0-1”.

Same Overpass hosted both Team Spirit and FaZe Clan, another clear choice since nobody wants to play Dust2 and Team Spirit decided to not opt into a war on Mirage. A back and forth first half gave FaZe Clan a cushion by the end, as they switched to defence with a three rounds lead and despite Team Spirit’s late comeback on the offence, it was still a “16-12” in favour of FaZe Clan, who started the Major with a win.

It remains to be seen what happens with the brackets now, as both Copenhagen Flames and FaZe Clan were seeded last, but it is too early to ring the bells for either Team Spirit or Astralis, as both teams have more than enough talent and experience to secure the needed three victories and move on in the tournament.
