Just days after Marcelo Coldzera David's debut for RED Canids, he found himself at the center of a legal dispute. His former organization, Legacy, asked tournament organizers to prevent the player from competing for the new team, claiming that he was still under contract with Legacy.
The organization says his contract runs until December 9, 2024, and asks organizers to refrain from allowing the player to participate in tournaments until the matter is resolved through an agreement or in a US court.
Legacy also claims that Valve is already aware of the situation and is working on it. The organization also says that the case will be presented in US court and that Coldzera will be registered by the team as the sixth player in all upcoming tournaments.
On April 18, the player's legal team sent a statement to journalists and several tournament organizers, including Valve, stating that he no longer had any ties to Legacy. The document contains only the signature of the player's lawyer, no mention of RED Canids, and no Legacy signature.
Legacy claims that on April 24, it notified RED Canids that Coldzera was still under contract with the organization and that any actions would result in consequences for Legacy, with RED Canids subject to legal liability. On April 25, Coldzera was announced by RED Canids and made a successful debut against BESTIA at ESL Challenger League S4 South America.
