Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken has stated in an interview with Pley.gg that he had the “final say” in Team Liquid transfers. He made this statement ahead of his first event as a game leader at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, which has piqued the interest of fans and experts alike.
Twistzz, despite his youth, has already demonstrated leadership skills. The move to the captain position was not met with universal praise. Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović noted that at the age of 24, Twistzz is still in the prime of his career when it comes to frags. However, Twistzz himself was ready for the role.
Transition to captaincy
Twistzz revealed that his transition to the in-game leader position was inevitable. He was already thinking about doing it at the end of 2023, though he didn't expect it to happen so soon. If he had stayed in FaZe for two or three years, he probably would have become captain as well. Twistzzzz's influence was growing, and at the end of last season he was doing a lot of captaincy work, actively participating in the game and interacting with other players. "It makes sense that the most experienced player should be the captain. I don't think it's a big change for myself,” he added.
Specific changes in the team
As captain, Twistzz had a say in transfers and led the scouting process. He noted that Liquid placed a lot of trust in him and believed in his abilities. This led to Twistzzz bringing in Justin “jks” Savage, with whom he won IEM Katowice 2022 and relatively unknown AWPer Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak.
Twistzzzz explained that he has had help from past analysts he has worked with in terms of scouting. One of the names they gave him was Ultimate. Twistzzzz started going through all of his FACEIT demos and following his Illuminar matches, and was pleased with what he saw. "I found a player who could kind of combine aggression.....
I opted for an aggressive AWPer who has a kind of flash that I found in ultimate. He also has a good work ethic, he's a humble, confident guy, very smart,” shared Twistzz.
