The new sub-tick update system from Counter-Strike 2 explained

Valve has announced Counter-Strike 2 on the Source 2 engine, along with a new tickrate system in the shooter. Movement, shooting, and throwing will no longer depend on the server's update rate.

What is the sub-tick-based structure in Counter-Strike 2?

The core of CS 2 is its sub-tick-based structure. Previously, changes to the game map on servers were only processed at certain intervals of time called "ticks." However, the new server architecture in Counter-Strike 2 allows for instant response to player actions, such as movement, shooting, or grenade throws.

Tickrate no longer matters. The server records when you jump, shoot, or peek around a corner, and calculates your actions as accurately as possible between ticks. You can fully trust your eyes. This makes the game more responsive, and the trajectory of grenades always remains the same.

When will CS 2 be released?

The official release of Counter-Strike 2 is scheduled for summer 2023. The exact release date of the new game will be announced later.
