The former captain of G2, Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, gave an interview to the Uncore portal, which released the article HooXi's Story. In the interview, he discussed a potential break after the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, about his tough times at G2, and his future.
Inactive after BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023
After the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, I started realizing that I should have taken a break much earlier. The loss of my father, extended periods without rest, and constant travels significantly affected my physical and mental state. The tight tournament schedule was exhausting, and the inability to allocate time for recovery only worsened the situation. I understand jL's words that the guys from NAVI might have grown tired of each other. Constant trips, limited hotel room space, and separation from family are very draining. Despite having a good relationship with my teammates at G2, all this strain inevitably affected my mood. Unfortunately, the last tournaments before the summer break didn't benefit either me or the team. However, I feared that requesting a break might lead to a roster change, so I continued playing, even feeling burnout.
At that tournament, team G2 was unable to advance from the Legends Stage, where in the Swiss system they took the penultimate place. The team lost to Fnatic, Bad New Eagles, and Vitality but managed to win against FURIA 2-0.
Tough Times at G2
HooXi was part of G2 for about two years, where he managed to win IEM Cologne 2023, IEM Katowice 2023, and BLAST Premier World Final 2022. But after the failure at BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024, he left the team.
“My transition to G2 was a real roller coaster. On one hand, it was the embodiment of my dream, on the other, a huge challenge. Even after signing the contract, I felt the pressure that immediately surrounded me. Despite management's assurances that they wouldn't pressurize me and would be patient, deep down I knew that reality could be different. The example of Aleksib, who was benched just six months after joining the team, vividly demonstrated that words do not always match actions. This realization heightened internal tension and a sense of responsibility for every decision I made. Working at G2 was undoubtedly an important experience for me, but it also came with difficulties that affected my attitude towards the game and teamwork.”
About His Future
Since July 1, he is a free agent, although there were rumors about his possible move to Astralis, but he did not make the switch.
Now I have time to realize everything that happened and truly rest. I haven't ended my career, it's just a temporary pause. I still have a strong desire to prove that I can not only compete but also win, lifting the most significant trophies. I am ready to learn to take care not only of my game but also of other aspects of the competition. This new approach will allow me to be the best not only on the server but also off it. My goal is to return to the top and prove to myself and everyone who believes in me that I deserve to be among the best
He also mentioned that he wants to once again prove to everyone and himself that his place is at the top and he deserves to raise the biggest trophies. At 29, it might be challenging to find teams, and perhaps he should already consider becoming a coach, but he is not planning to do so yet.
