In a dramatic twist to the roster of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, GamerLegion has been officially confirmed to replace 9 Pandas, following the latter's inability to overcome travel issues. The decision, confirmed by PGL, brings an unexpected opportunity for GamerLegion, who had previously secured the second-place spot in the European last-chance qualifier. This was reported on Twitter.
The sudden roster change was necessitated on Friday when PGL started making travel arrangements for GamerLegion to Copenhagen, after it became apparent that 9 Pandas could not assemble a full team in time. GamerLegion's squad is expected to arrive in the Danish capital today, just in time for their opening match against AMKAL.
Despite the last-minute team swap, the tournament's seeding remains unaffected, with GamerLegion inheriting 9 Pandas' position as the sixth-highest-ranked European team in the Opening Stage, aligning with Valve's regional standings.
GamerLegion's journey to the Copenhagen Major has been fraught with highs and lows. They were relegated to the Europe RMR's last-chance qualifier following defeats against top teams like Vitality, ENCE, and HEROIC, but showcased resilience by overcoming fnatic and Guild Eagles. Their only setback was a narrow defeat to 9 Pandas in a gripping three-map series during the qualifiers.
Since then, GamerLegion has played a single official match — a 1-2 loss against BIG in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown's first round. This upcoming Major in Copenhagen will mark GamerLegion's third appearance at such a prestigious event, having exited IEM Rio in the Challengers Stage with a 2-3 record and reaching the final of the BLAST Paris Major, only to fall to Vitality.
