GamerLegion coach, as: "We had to take risks" - about signing young players

GamerLegion coach, Ashley "ash" Battye gave an interview to HLTV where he shared how he rebuilt the team after BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. They got their top transfer targets this summer, banking on young talent to get back to the top. The team has changed 27 players since 2019.

Despite unstable results, they still managed to reach the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 finals under ash. However, the success had its big price, namely that important players of the team, siuhy and iM were signed by MOUZ and NAVI respectively, leading to a big rebuild of GamerLegion.

Ash found it very difficult to secure top targets, which led to the recruitment of players that didn't last long. However, he believes that the current young roster has the potential to take off again.

I've always been active in scouting
said ash
The period after Majors was tough. We couldn't get the right players, which demotivated everyone
explained ash

In this difficult situation ash took measured risks such as signing young players like aNdu and sl3nd.

We had to take a risk, but their stability and potential made it worth it
noted ash

The team also brought in FL4MUS, known for his aggressive style, adding another element of unpredictability to their game.

Despite setbacks, including Snax's unexpected move to G2, GamerLegion's latest rebuild is encouraging. Ash sees their average age of 20.6 as an advantage in adapting to the new Counter-Strike 2 environment.

This is the best time to bring in younger players
he said

With upcoming events such as the BLAST Premier Fall Groups, ash is optimistic.

Our goal is to move up the rankings and build a team capable of winning tournaments
he concluded
