The first semifinal that determined the first finalist of Esports World Cup 2024 in CS2 is over. In the semifinal match between G2 and Virtus.Pro was won by the former with a score of 2-0.
The first major tournament of the season is being held in Riyadh, with a prize pool of $1,000,000. The tournament runs from July 17-21 and 15 teams are participating. There are already some teams that have left the tournament, including such grands like FaZe, Vitality and Spirit. However, Natus Vincere, MOUZ and G2 are still in the tournament, which makes the final matches even more intense and exciting.
In the match between G2 and Virtus.Pro, the maps played were Dust2 and Ancient, peak VP and G2 respectively. On the first Dust2 map, VP started off with three rounds in a row, but then G2 took 9 rounds in a row, ending the first half with a score of 9-3. After switching sides, G2 won two more rounds, leading 11-3. Virtus.Pro took one round, but G2 ended the map in their favor with a score of 13-4. On Dust2, the Kovač brothers distinguished themselves: NiKo and huNter- played the best map with ratings of 10.0 and 8.6 respectively.
The second map was Ancient and the scenario here was similar to the first map, but mirrored. G2 started with an advantage by taking 9 rounds in a row, but at the end VP still won 3 rounds and the half ended 9-3 again. After switching sides, the game was evenly matched, but G2 won 13-7 and the map ended with a 1v3 clutch by m0NESY. The MVP of the entire match was NiKo with a high rating of 8.8.
During the match on the Dust2 map, s1mple shared his opinion on the outcome of the match during a stream with streamer shadowkekw, “I think VP will win. VP should definitely win Dust2. They haven't played Ancient in a long time, I think they've been practicing it all the time. Maybe even 2-0, but I think G2 will be stronger on Ancient. I think it's going to be 3 maps.” In the end, G2 won VP without a third map, 2-0, contrary to s1mple's predictions.
The next matchup in Esports World Cup 2024 will be Natus Vincere vs MOUZ to determine who will play against G2 in the grand finals and compete for $400,000. This clash is interesting because it will be the first match between the two in 278 days. Earlier they met at IEM Sydney 2023, where s1mple couldn't come to the tournament and was replaced by B1ad3.
