The new G2 roster continues to surprise and show good play, this time they managed to defeat FaZe with a score of 2-1 in BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2024. Despite the defeat on the first map, G2 managed to gather themselves and finish the game in their favor.
Before the match, a picture appeared on the net, where G2's coach alone chooses maps before the match, while FaZe had both the captain and the coach on their side. This immediately caused concern, because earlier TaZ was already accused of bad picks for their team.
For G2, this became the 4th meeting in the last half a year where G2 have won twice. Where the last one was as part of the IEM Dallas 2024 playoffs, this time FaZe could avenge their past defeats.
The match started on Ancient, a G2 selection where they didn't get the game going, and especially m0NESY for whom Ancient vs FaZe was his fifth worst map this year and one of the worst in CS2. For him the map ended with a rating of 4.6.
The second map was Nuke, FaZe's choice, for whom the map started very sadly. G2 gathered fully and finished the half with a score of 9-3, ending the map with a score of 13-6. Where G2 newcomer, Mario 'malbsMd' Samayoa, excelled, finishing the map with a 21-8 statistic. Which was his second best map for G2.
The final map of the match was the old Mirage, where FaZe had problems again and finished the half again with a negative score of 3-9. After the second lost pistol round FaZe had almost no chance left. They tried to get back in the game by taking 3 rounds in a row, but it was not enough and they lost with a score of 13-6.
On the first map we didn't communicated well, we didn't hear each other at all. We didn't finish the clutches, but we came together for the second and third map.
The community also picked up on the fact that FaZe only once failed to qualify for the BLAST Final, and that was in 2020 when coldzera was still playing for the team. Now FaZe are one step away from failure and need to win two matches to get through. The first one will be against the winner of the NIP/Cloud9 pair, the match itself will take place tomorrow.
