FURIA Triumphs Over G2 to Clinch IEM Cologne Playoff spot

FURIA has earned their place in the quarterfinals of IEM Cologne with a decisive 2-0 victory against G2, dominating their European rivals on Dust2 (13-6) and sealing the deal in a tense Inferno matchup (16-14).

Match Details

Dust2 saw FURIA take control early, outmaneuvering G2 at every opportunity. The only notable resistance from G2 came from a few standout plays by Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa, but it wasn't enough to counter the relentless pressure from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, who led FURIA's charge.

The battle on Inferno was much closer. G2 managed to secure their CT half with strong defensive plays in Banana by malbsMd and Matúš "MATYS" Šimko, though YEKINDAR's influence kept the score tight at halftime. G2 extended their lead with a second-half pistol win, but FURIA quickly responded, forcing G2 into a series of losing force-buys. Eventually, G2 found a breakthrough, exploiting a gap in FURIA's defense to win a critical 2v4, pushing them to 11 rounds. However, Danil "molodoy" Golubenko stepped up with a daring smoke push in a nearly impossible 2v2 situation, thwarting map point and pushing the game to overtime.

In overtime, FURIA held their ground, winning three CT rounds thanks to exceptional plays from molodoy and YEKINDAR, before finishing strong on their T side with a precise split onto a heavily defended A bombsite.

FalleN's Return to the LANXESS Arena

The resurgence of FURIA since adding YEKINDAR and molodoy has been remarkable, and nothing highlights their progress better than securing FalleN another appearance on one of Counter-Strike's most prestigious stages.

IEM Cologne 2025 runs from July 23 to August 3 in Germany. The tournament's prize pool is $1,000,000. You can follow all the news, schedule, and results here.
