Documentation leaks from regulatory bodies have revealed the first images of the new portable gaming console, ASUS ROG Ally 2 — and one of its versions circulating online — which is likely to be associated with Xbox in collaboration with ASUS.
These images were first discovered by 91mobiles and VideoCardz in the SDPPI certification database in Indonesia and the accompanying FCC listing in the USA. The photos show two different models of the ROG Ally 2: a white one and a striking black one with a separate Xbox button — an element absent in the standard version of the console. This supports the speculation that the black model is part of the "Project Kennan" — a previously mentioned collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS to create a portable device with Xbox integration.
Both models are expected to feature a 7-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to previous ROG Ally versions. However, their specifications differ significantly. The black version, likely tied to Xbox, is equipped with the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor — a powerful 8-core chip with a 36W TDP — paired with 64GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM. The white model is set to have a more energy-efficient AMD Aeirth Plus chip with 4 cores and a 20W TDP, which is the successor to the Van Gogh architecture used in the Steam Deck.
Processor | The device is expected to feature an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, based on the Zen 5 architecture. |
RAM | ROG Ally 2 may be equipped with up to 64GB of RAM, enhancing multitasking and gaming performance. |
Storage | Rumors suggest internal storage capacity will range from 1TB to 2TB to accommodate more games. |
Display | The screen size is expected to be between 7.4 to 8 inches, with a 120Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate (VRR) support. However, the device is unlikely to feature an OLED panel. |
Battery | Potential battery options include 99Wh and 80Wh. |
In terms of design, the ROG Ally 2 has undergone ergonomic improvements, including larger rear grips and a GameCube-style form factor. While the display bezels remain unchanged, the device profile appears bulkier — likely due to an updated chassis and increased battery capacity, rumored to reach 99Wh. Both versions come with two USB Type-C ports on the top edge, but their placement may vary between the prototype and the final model.
The documentation also confirmed Wi-Fi 6E support thanks to a MediaTek module, and internal storage will range from 512GB to 2TB. Charging speed will depend on the configuration and range from 65 to 100W.
Although neither ASUS nor Microsoft has officially confirmed the partnership or plans for the operating system, the presence of a dedicated Xbox button indicates closer integration with the Xbox ecosystem — possibly through Windows 11 or a special Xbox launcher. This is currently speculative, as images of the device in operation have not yet been published.
ASUS had already hinted at the ROG Ally 2 in an April 1st video, which many took as an April Fool's joke. However, the release date coincides with the announcement of the first generation ROG Ally in 2023, now seen as a deliberate hint at the upcoming release.
After certification in Indonesia, the USA, and South Korea, industry experts expect an official presentation of the ROG Ally 2 at Computex 2025, which kicks off on May 20 — just a day after the Microsoft Build conference. If the company follows previous schedules, the new product could hit the market as early as June.
