FACEIT Faces Criticism Over Confusing Decisions to Ban Russian CS2 Player

FACEIT, a popular esports competition platform, has found itself in the spotlight for its decisions related to the banning of a Russian player known as Denis “xdENiSZERA” Sklenin. The case gained publicity after the player was initially banned on May 21 for smurfing when the platform discovered his second account. However, the very next day, May 22, the ban was lifted and only a three-month ban on participation in the queue was imposed.

The conflict of interest becomes even more pronounced given the fact that the title sponsor of the VP.Prodigy team, where “xdENiSZERA” plays, WinLine, is a partner of FACEIT. This raised the question of the potential influence of sponsors on the platform's decisions.

Despite the ban, on May 28, xdENiSZERA was spotted as part of VP.Prodigy during ESEA Advanced matches held on the FACEIT platform. This situation has raised concerns in the community about the consistency and transparency of FACEIT's rules, especially when it comes to circumventing bans and the influence of commercial ties on esports decisions.
