According to Dust2.us the American cybersports organization Evil Geniuses, is going through a difficult time, after massive layoffs and the breakup of several teams. Which will lead very soon, will lead to the fact that EG will disband their Counter-Strike 2 lineup and leave the discipline.
According to one former employee, the organization has already been operating as a "skeleton crew" for most of 2023, creating a challenging environment for its employees. One source even described the workplace as a "snack prison" where employees were overworked and failed to deliver promised results.
Events began on November 1, when Evil Geniuses announced the dissolution of their DOTA 2 team. Now the organization, according to a report from Richard Lewis, is planning to do the same for another popular Valve game, Counter-Strike 2. One of Lewis' sources expressed:
They plan to stay only in Rio games. This means they will keep the men's Counter-Strike team until December and will likely part ways with the women's teams before then.
Earlier this year Evil Geniuses had up to four Counter-Strike teams, but today only two remain. The decision has displeased one of the organization's main partners, bookmaker Thunderpick, who had planned to support four teams. One of their sources said:
When they made the partnership, they believed [the organization] had four CS teams. But they reduced that to two. Then they added a Dota 2 team as waste paper and now they are gone
At the moment, Evil Geniuses has their rosters in 18 other cyber sports disciplines, including: PUBG, R6, LOL, Valorant and others.
