Everything you need to know about the upcoming Valorant Champions 2023

The game's community has long been looking forward to the upcoming world championship, which marks the end of the current competitive season in Valorant. Tonight, Riot Games announced all the details of the upcoming championship, which we will now discuss. Remember that the Valorant LCQ has recently ended in all regions, so all the teams participating in Valorant Champions 2023 are known. You can read more about all the participants and groups that have formed for the current tournament in our article.

Let's start with the main thing, the prize pool. This year, $2,250,000 has been allocated for the world championship, which is almost one and a half times more than last year. There is a logical explanation for this, it lies in the growing popularity of the game itself. Valorant attracts a larger audience every year, thanks to the efforts of the developers in 2022, the discipline became the most popular shooter in terms of views on Twitch. Therefore, it is not surprising that prizes at major tournaments are constantly increasing, for example, this year's VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo, had a total prize pool of $1,000,000, which is equivalent to last year's world championship Valorant Champions 2022. Clearly, the main event of the year should have a more noticeable prize, so this year the prize pool has been doubled.

The prize money is distributed among the participants as follows

  • 1st place – $1,000,000
  • 2nd place – $400,000
  • 3rd place – $250,000
  • 4th place – $130,000
  • 5-6 places – $85,000
  • 7-8 places – $75,000
  • 9-12 places – $30,000
  • 13-16 places – $20,000

Format of the Tournament

As we wrote above, a total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament, divided into 4 groups. The group stage will take place from August 6 to 13, in a double elimination format, meaning that of the 4 teams in the group, only 2 will move on to the next stage. Matches will be played in a best of 3 format. The playoffs will be divided into 2 parts, the main one, which will take place from August 16 to 20, after which there will be a 3-day break. Then the final stage from August 24 to 26, in which the most important matches will be played, including the finals of the upper and lower brackets and the grand final. Matches will be played to 3 wins, except for the losers' final and the grand final, they will be to 5 wins.

As with every year, Riot Games will be giving nice gifts to the community for watching the world championship matches. By watching matches from August 6 to 13, you can receive a new title in the game Lowrider, matches from 16 to 25 will bring you a new graffiti from Gekko, and watching the grand final on August 26, gives you the opportunity to receive champion cards.
