The organizers of IEM Rio Major 2022, represented by ESL, have announced the rules for substitutions in teams within the championship.

The company clarified that two or more coronavirus cases in a team would be a reason for disqualification.

ESL noted that they would not allow an ill player to play from a hotel, so clubs need to bring in a pre-registered stand-in or coach to replace the sick team member.

The company justifies this decision by saying that all stages of the major will be held on stage, and because of this, the organizers want all teams to be on an equal footing.

IEM Rio Major 2022 will run from October 31st to November 13th. Twenty-four teams will compete for a prize pool of $1.25 million.
