Vice President of ESL FACEIT Group, Ulrich Schulze, announced that the tournament operator will be reintroducing doping tests for their LAN tournaments this year after a long hiatus.
The doping testing procedure, which was interrupted in 2020 due to the transition to online, will return this year. According to Schulz, the delay in reintroducing the checks was due to the need to restore infrastructure after the coronavirus epidemic, which affected staff and facilities.
Doping in esports
At various times, players from OG in Dota 2 and professional fighting game player SonicFox were accused of using doping, namely substances such as Adderall, Lisdexamfetamine, Ritalin, and others. The latter admitted to using Adderall to combat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but was not punished. The aforementioned substances improve focus and other cognitive abilities, even at low doses. Their use can provide an unfair advantage in esports competitions, where focus and reaction speed are extremely important.
