VAC error in CS2 — can't even play with bots. Any fixes?

Seriously, I can't even start a practice match anymore. It just throws "VAC was unable to verify the game session" and refuses to load the map. Used to fix it with a restart or file check, now nothing works. Anyone else dealing with this?

Same here - been stuck with this for a week. Tried everything: reinstalling, file checks, restarts, bots, switching betas… it always comes back after 10–15 minutes. With all the real cheaters still running wild, it’s hard to even bother anymore.

Try turning off Razer Synapse (just the software, not the keyboard itself) and see if the issue goes away. Helped a couple of people

Yeah, it’s a known bug. VAC’s accuracy right now is like a Sawed-Off - random and frustrating. Happened to me in my first Wingman match on drop day. No ban, just locked out for 24 hours. Classic CS

Appreciate the tip about Razer Synapse — that actually did the trick for me. VAC must think RGB lighting is a form of hacking now 😂 Jokes aside, it's wild that legit software triggers this. Valve really needs to refine how VAC handles third-party apps; feels like half the player base is getting flagged just for customizing their gear.

Honestly, starting to think VAC just has trust issues. Like, one Steam overlay sneezes the wrong way, and VAC goes “nah, that’s definitely a cheat loader.” My theory? It’s some kind of aggressive handshake failure between VAC and background processes — maybe after a recent update they tightened validation protocols, but didn’t whitelist enough common apps. So instead of catching actual cheaters, it just yells at anyone running RGB software, FPS counters, or even Discord overlays.

Check if you have MSI Afterburner or any overlays running - some of those mess with VAC. I just killed all background apps, ran Steam as admin, and it worked

This started happening to me after a recent CS2 update. Try opting out of all Steam betas, then verify game files and restart your PC. Not 100% guaranteed, but it fixed it for me - at least temporarily
