Dev1ce Spoke in More Detail About His Inactivity And Psychological Problems

Sniper of Astralis shared the details of his long inactive in NIP.

Astralis sniper Nikolai dev1ce Rydtz took part in the HLTV Confirmed podcast, in which the player spoke in detail about his inactivity and psychological problems.

Inactive in NIP

Dev1ce said that his inactivity in NIP began with the worsening of his psychological problems. Remember that the player suddenly transferred to the club reserve right during IEM Winter 2021.

The day before the semi-finals, I felt terrible, I couldn't sleep for several days, and my body shut down. I went home and started working with a psychologist.

This tournament was difficult for dev1ce. The Dane faced panic attacks, and the hotel where the players were staying was not supposed to be disclosed, so the player could not even call a doctor to the room. This became one of the reasons for his removal from the tournament. Dev1ce felt unsafe.

This is how the inactivity began, which lasted almost a year. The Dane wanted to return to the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, but a psychologist advised him not to participate in the tournament. It was hard for dev1ce because he didn't want to miss the majors.

Returning to Astralis

Dev1ce said he was not against returning to NIP because the team had a good roster, but he still chose Astralis.

I thought that this was the best opportunity to move forward <…> Perhaps I had the opportunity to return to NIP, but I had been away from the team for too long, and it would have been a little awkward. <…> And the deal [transition to Astralis] was good for all parties.

Returning to the team after such a long period of inactivity would be very difficult. There was no place for dev1ce in the team because NIP had already started making replacements. Yes, maybe NIP would have been one of the best teams after the return of the sniper, but dev1ce chose the other way and will now climb to the top with his old teammates.

What else did dev1ce say?

The Dane also described his work with a psychologist and that his inactivity lasted so long only because he could return only after good treatment. Otherwise, the problems could progress. In addition, dev1ce said that Astralis were far from the only option. Several top organizations wrote to him, and there was also an option to assemble a mix of Danish players, among whom Rasmus HooXi Nielsen could be.

When will dev1ce play?

Astralis will compete in Group D of the ESL Pro League Season 17. Their first match will be held on March 15 against Spirit. All information about the event is available here.
