Complexity managed to defeat Eternal Fire 2-0 in a difficult match. Thanks to that they qualified for IEM Cologne 2024 for the first time with this squad, after two years of failure.

Backstory

The teams have only met each other once, and that was at YaLLa Compass 2024 in the group stage. Complexity were stronger in the BO1 format and won with a score of 16-13 on Anubis.

This time Eternal Fire could take revenge for the defeat, because this match was important and decided the entrance to the main stage. Eternal Fire had an advantage in the map selection stage, as they had a higher percentage on all three maps than Complexity, and 100% on their Vertigo selection.

Match Details

On the first map of Vertigo, Eternal Fire dominated their opponents in the beginning of the map until Complexity rallied, but it was too late and they lost the half with a score of 4-8. In the second half Complexity due to great play by Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski took 9 rounds and turned the tide. EliGE finished the second half with a 17-4 K/D statistic and Complexity won 13-9.

Dust2 was the pick for Complexity where they had a bad game early in the first half, but towards the end they rallied and finished the half 6-6. In the second half, they won a great 5 round series where they took a lead, bringing the game to 12-8, but couldn't finish it off. Eternal Fire took 4 rounds in a row and secured extra rounds on this map.

At the first extra rounds, the teams could not decide the winners, so they went to the second rounds, where Complexity got the better of them and won with a score of 19-17, thus advancing to the main stage.

Best Player of the Match

The best player of the match was Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, who finished the series with a 7.2 rating, contributing a big impact on both maps for the win. It can also be said that if it wasn't for him, the team lost the match for sure and may not have qualified for the main event.

He recently said in an interview that this year is the last year to show results, otherwise replacements will have to be made.

Further matches

Thanks to getting into the main stage the first time around, Complexity will have one or two days to prepare for matches in the main stage. For now, the opponent they will be playing against is unknown.

Eternal Fire, on the other hand, have fallen to the lower grid, where they will have another opportunity to qualify for the main tournament. They will play against The MongolZ, where the winner will move on and the loser will leave the tournament.
