The new Cloud9 squad will miss the upcoming Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, which will be held at the end of December. The reason for this is the low position in the Valve rankings, because of which the team will not qualify.
The team's position in the Valve rankings
The team is currently at 44th place in the world rankings, but with an old roster that includes alpha, Ax1Le, Boombl4, HObbit and Perfecto. That said, even Perfecto's return to the main roster won't help them, as the rankings are determined by matches actually played by a certain lineup, where only two plays and substitutions can be changed.
At the moment, the team has only played 6 matches in the new lineup and will not be able to play 4 matches in one day. Which means not making it to the closed qualifiers for RMR and missing the entire Major cycle.
Even if they manage to play 4 matches, it is not a fact that they will be in the top 48 teams in Europe because of their poor results in the last matches. Teams ranked 17 through 48 will qualify for the closed qualifiers, while teams ranked 1 through 16 will go straight to RMR.
The position of Russian teams in cybersport
The situation of Russian players changed after February 24, when Russia declared war on Ukraine. The majority of Russian players kept silent and maintained a neutral position. The first problems started not immediately, but after some time.
And now in the last month it has become more relevant than ever. HEROIC sniper, degster missed 2 tournaments out of 4 possible because of visa problems and will also miss the next one. And today it became known that BetBoom will miss the tournament as well, due to visa problems.
Community Reaction
The majority of the community has reacted indifferently to this situation, with many believing it's their fault and they missed a lot of tournaments and could have put together a lineup earlier or played at other tournaments.
The team was without a roster for two and a half months and did not play tournaments, even though they knew that Valve decides the rankings for invitations to closed qualifications.
