Astralis sporting director explained why blameF didn't fit into the CS2 team

February 28, 2024 was an unexpected day for Astralis fans when the team decided to bench their captain, Benjamin "blameF" Bremer. The decision sparked a lot of discussion, and now Astralis sporting director Kasper Straube has spoken on the "Best of 3" podcast about the reasons behind the move.

Straube explained that with the arrival of players stavn and jabbi from HEROIC into the Astralis lineup, there were some difficulties in the role allocation. Despite hopes of a successful adaptation, the team has faced challenges in the process. According to Straube, stavn and jabbi excelled in their current roles, which provided the team with a distinct advantage, while BlameF's play style proved less suited for the new roster.

For us, when we put the team together, and added stavn and jabbi and Staehr and device and blameF, obviously there were some issues that we needed to address in terms of who plays what positions, how we do it, all those things. And I think we were all left with the feeling that it could be successful
Straube noted

Straube also emphasized that the dynamic approach of stavn, jabbi, device and Staehr contrasted with the more passive and calculated style of blameF. Benjamin was a more passive and deliberative player and the team needed something different. It was a matter of playing philosophy and overall chemistry between the players that made the change necessary.

After leaving Astralis, blameF joined fnatic, where he no longer holds the IGL position. Straube expressed that the change of scenery will benefit Benjamin in his future career.
