T1 announces Gumayusi will be starting in Split 2

T1 has announced today that Gumayusi will be returning to the starting roster for Split 2 after conversations between the T1 management and the coaching staff took place. It was decided that Gumayusi and Smash will be fighting for the ADC position, but it was for the formers to lose as he will be starting for T1 at the start of the next split.

In the statement above, T1 CEO Joe Marsh acknowledged the outrage from the fans around the organization's silence on the matter. In the LCK Cup, T1 announced that Smash would be the starting bottom laner going forward, with Gumayusi having to fight his way back onto the team. This caused outrage amongst the T1 community and forced T1 management and coaching staff to have lengthy discussions about the team's future.

In the end, Joe Marsh requested that the two-time world champion be the starting ADC ahead of the rookie in Smash for the start of the Split 2 campaign. It has been noted that the pair will be competing for the same spot, but T1 has decided to kick the can down the road and allow the coaching staff to make the eventual decision on who will be the starting ADC moving forward.

The statement from Joe Marsh is contradictory, as it states he has complete trust in his coaching staff while also requesting for a player to start ahead of another, completely undermining the authority that the coaching staff should have in this situation. It will be interesting to see the dynamic of the team moving forward. Will T1 dare bench Gumayusi again, or will they opt for the future and go with Smash as their ADC going into future seasons? It's a tricky situation for T1, as their fanbase has repeatedly protested against the organization when they have made decisions that were not favorable.
