The 2024 World Championship, the main event of the year, is in full swing, but for some teams, it has already ended. One of these teams is G2 Esports, which, according to rumors, is preparing to part ways with two players from its main roster soon.
G2’s Performance at Worlds
The main favorites of the European scene dominated their region throughout the season, earning them an invitation to the current championship. However, despite solid preparation, the team repeated the experience of previous years. The European club started the tournament with a win over paiN Gaming, 1-0. This was followed by a loss to Hanwha Life Esports, 0-1, and a victory against Weibo, 1-0.
But from the crucial fourth round, G2 began a series of defeats that led to their exit from the event. First, the team lost to T1, 0-2, and later fell to Bilibili Gaming in a tense match with a score of 1-2. As a result, G2 Esports exited Worlds 2024, finishing in 9th-12th place, repeating last year’s outcome.

Rumors of Player Departures
According to the portal Sheep Esports, just over 24 hours after the team's elimination, the club's management has already started planning its first changes. Insiders report that the organization plans to part ways with two players: jungler Martin "Yike" Sundelin and support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle.
Both players have been core members of the team since they joined G2 at the end of 2022, when the organization introduced an updated roster. Together with their teammates, this duo made G2 the favorite of the European region and helped secure multiple LEC titles. However, the team has struggled on the world stage, finishing as underdogs at Worlds for the third consecutive year.
It is still unclear when the rumored player departures will be confirmed. We will continue to monitor the organization’s official social media channels to stay updated on future roster changes for their League of Legends team.
