G2’s top laner BrokenBlade gave a candid post-match interview after narrowly defeating FURIA 3:2 in the MSI 2025 Play-In Stage. Though the European squad were heavy favorites going into the series, the Brazilian team pushed them to their limits.
The match took place on June 26 and went the full five games — an outcome few predicted. G2 were expected to sweep the series, but FURIA showed grit, forcing BrokenBlade and co. to adapt under pressure. The G2 top laner admitted the team came in confident but had to fight harder than expected:
Obviously we came in thinking we're going to win. I think today I played not the greatest series of my life. I also think they played incredibly well. I want to give them credit. I think they have a good shot in this Play-In stage. But yeah, I'm happy that we could get through. No matter how we make it or how we go through — as long as we get it, I'm happy.
Starting from the Play-In is not new for G2, but BrokenBlade explained why this year feels different:
We've come in as second seeds before, but I feel like this time it's very, very different because we've just not won in our region yet, and that's not how people view G2. For us, we are going to use this as momentum — a gear shift kind of thing. Hopefully, our next opponent will be either Bilibili or GAM, right? So it's going to be fun and exciting.
The winner of the series between BLG and GAM Esports will face G2 next. And for BrokenBlade, there’s no question which opponent he wants more.
G2’s long-time international nemesis might be up next — and BrokenBlade didn’t hide his anticipation:
If you look at the series, we always take a game from them. It's always close, you know? I think this time we really need to go the extra step, the extra mile to beat these guys. They have also been struggling in their league, and I just really want to play against Bin.
BLG have repeatedly shattered G2’s international dreams — at MSI 2023 and again at Worlds. If G2 are to reclaim their legacy, overcoming BLG would be the symbolic first step. For now, BrokenBlade and G2 march on — bruised, but not broken.
