In 2025, LEC is gearing up for significant format changes to keep the audience engaged. The Winter Split will maintain the 2024 format, but Spring and Summer will introduce innovations: BO1 will be replaced with BO3, and the usual Championship Points and Season Finals will no longer be used.
Viewers can enjoy three separate splits with unique trophies, whose winners will automatically qualify for international events: Spring to MSI, Summer to Worlds, along with a new winter tournament for champions.
Proximity to Players and Lively Atmosphere
One of Riot Games' important goals for the coming year is to bring the competitive process closer to the real game environment. LEC matches will be played on the current Live Patch version. The league also plans a Roadshow to host matches in various countries, bringing them closer to team fans. While the specific locations have not been announced, we might see games of Karmine Corp and MAD Lions KOI (KOI in the future) in France and Spain.
Schedule and Format Innovations
LEC starts on January 18 with the Winter Split, which will maintain the 2024 format, with a few innovations like Fearless Draft in playoffs. The winter champion will also gain entry into a new international tournament, with more details expected in November.
Spring will kick off a new phase with a longer regular season: seven weeks, nine BO3s for each team. The top six teams from the matches will advance to the playoffs and play in a double elimination BO5 format, with Spring finalists earning spots for MSI 2025.
The Summer Split will also bring changes: 10 teams will be divided into two groups, each playing four BO3s. The top two teams from each group will move directly to the playoffs, while the bottom teams will be eliminated. The remaining four will compete for the remaining playoff spots, where it will be decided who will contest for the final trophy of 2025 and three spots for Worlds.
Road to the Finals and Importance of New Changes
With the conclusion of the Summer Split, the LEC season will reach its climax, and the final matches will take place in a show-tour format before the public. Riot Games will announce the locations for these games early next year.
