Gaming terminology is essentially universal when playing competitive games. There are just certain terms and phrases that most players will know, even the ones just starting to dip their toes into the world of competitive gaming. LoL is no different. There are so many League of Legends terms that it is sometimes hard to keep up. Gaming terminology is used to speed up the communication process. In FPS games, there are callouts that simplify the player's location to the point it is almost as accurate as seeing it on their own screen.
League of Legends is no different, with some many champions, spells, abilities, and more to learn, it's good to get down the League of Legends slang words in order to have the best communication with your team. So, do you want to learn the League of Legends lingo? If so then stay tuned as we go through all the important League of Legends terminology that you should know to become a better player on Summoners Rift.
Most important LoL terms

There are many League of Legends abbreviations to learn, but probably the most used in LoL and many competitive games is AFK. AFK stands for away from keyboard, which essentially means that the player in question has quit the game or has decided to give up playing the match altogether. This is probably said hundreds of thousands of times a day by League of Legends players across the globe. This is a common threat in-game, where a player says, 'I'm AFK, ' and the worst thing you can do is pour fuel on the fire. Let's have a look at some more League of Legends acronyms and slang words:
- GG: This is one of the most used gaming terms in all competitive games. GG simply means good game.
- Inting: This is when you say a player is intentionally feeding. But most of the time, the word is used incorrectly as the player is, in fact, not trolling.
- Gank: A gank is when the enemy jungler flanks one of the laners, causing an uneven advantage in either your favor or the enemy team's favor.
- FF: FF means when your teammates want to forfeit the game. For example, if the game is going badly, a teammate will normally say 'ff at 15', which means they want to forfeit the game at the earliest stage possible, which is the fifteen-minute mark.
- Feed: Feed is just the shortened word for feeding, which is when a player dies multiple times in lane, forcing the other player to be considerably stronger than the rest of the map.
- Elo hell: This is one of the most commonly used terms for players who are in the lower ranks, such as bronze, silver, and gold. This means that it is not the players' fault they are where they are; it's the teammates they are getting that are holding them back.

Rare LoL term and in-game terms

There are many LoL terms that have either gone under the radar, not been used as much, or have simply exceeded their time. One of the most used terms back in the day was SS. Before enemy missing pings were a thing, players literally had to type it. To make a much shorter version, the term SS was used to indicate the player is missing from their lane. For example, the top laner would say SS, which would warn the mid laner that their laner could be coming mid. It was a problematic term as people simply would type too late, or just not type at all.
As for in-game terms, AD and AP are by far and away the most popular terms that are embedded into the game. Riot has worked effortlessly to not overdo it when it comes to the ability or item descriptions, with the terms AD and AP being used on every champion, item, and more. The terms stand for Attack Damage and Ability Power. AD is used by ADCs, bruisers, and more, while AP is used on mages and enchanters.
