The Eternals system in League of Legends is one that can often go under the radar if you blink you’ll miss them appearing in your game when other players earn a milestone. Eternals are the modern-day tracking system for specific champions you use, highlighting your excellent efficiency with the champion. Don’t mistake this system for the champion mastery system as those are two different entities altogether. So what are Eternals League of Legends?
Eternals are permanent lifetime trackers that track specific achievements throughout your time playing League of Legends, they aren’t tied down to one game mode either, you can grind through Eternals on all League of Legends modes. There are two types of Eternals in League of Legends, the common Eternals, which track the most basic of stats, and there are unique Eternals, which are specific to that champion and their class. There are six unique Eternals if you’re looking for a more personalized tracking system for your champion. Fun fact, Renata Glaasc is the only champion who has every Eternal from Series 1 and Series 2.
Let’s take a more in-depth look at each League of Legends Eternals and what they represent in League of Legends:
League of Legends Eternals Explained: Each Eternal and what it does
As mentioned above, there are six individual Eternals that you can get in League of Legends. They are split into two series, series 1 and series 2. Each champion has a starter series in League of Legends, where players can purchase the starter series to start tracking basic stats. For example, in the League of Legends store right now, Mel’s starter series is available in the Eternals section 2500 Blue Essence. This starter series will track epic monsters killed, structures destroyed, and takedowns. Three common stats that you’ll find in the starter series for Eternals.
If you want a more personalised experience then you can purchase the series 1 and series 2 Eternals sets individually in the LoL store. These can’t be purchased with Blue Essence and will set you back 600 Riot Points per series, making it 1200 RP for the pair. If you’re a player that only cares about takedowns, and epic monsters killed if you’re more of a jungler, then it’s best to just buy the starter series. Not only because it’ll track the stats you want, but it also doesn’t cost real money.
What is an Eternals set League of Legends? Let's take a look:
- Empress: The Empress Eternal focuses on ability power champions, or more specifically in some cases abilities that use AP. These are champions such as Akali, Ahri, Brand, and more. “Superior demonstration of skill in the heat of the battle”
- Guide: Guide focuses on supportive champions, or champions that have an ability that aids the team. For example, Ashe is not a support, but her E reveals where the enemies are, making the game easier to play for teammates. “Following the path to victory, or opening one for allies.”
- Protector: Protector is another supportive Eternal that is targeted at champions that can keep themselves and the team in the fight for as long as possible. Champions that heal, provide shields, and more are going to get the Protector Eternal. For example, Alistar can heal, protect enemies, and mitigate damage with his ultimate so he will get the Protector Eternal. “Keeping yourself and allies in the fight.”
- Trickster: Trickster focuses on champions that can kill an enemy with their ability rather quickly while also having the ability to dodge other incoming attacks. For example, Master Yi’s Q can be used to evade an enemy's ability. “Deceitful mind games or premeditated chaos.”
- Warden: The Warden Eternal focuses on champions with hard crowd control, and abilities that can engage, disengage, and more. These champions have the ability to lock someone down, rendering them useless. For example, Yorick’s cage completely traps an enemy. “Controlling enemies and the flow of battle.”
- Warrior: Warriors are your carries in League of Legends, these are champions that love to fight, and will rack up a lot of kills. An example of a Warrior Eternal is Aatrox, where the task is to kill someone using his ultimate. “Crushing foes mercilessly on the battlefield.”
If you're wondering how do you show Eternals in League of Legends, one of the ways players can view their Eternals is via the profile page in the League of Legends client. Go over to your profile by clicking your icon in the top right, on the mastery score section at the bottom, hover over it and it’ll tell you your best Eternals. Mine for example displays takedowns for Urgot and Ornn, along with structures destroyed.
Community Opinions on Eternals in LoL and Conclusion
The community opinions on Eternals are hit and miss. While they appear frequently in the game, it’s mainly the starter set, which can be earned through the Hextech Crafting system, meaning players are not going out of their way to buy Eternals from the official League of Legends store on the client. League of Legends fans went to Reddit to express their thoughts on Eternals, with the title of the thread being “What’s the point of buying Eternals?” One player commented “A sense of pride and accomplishment.” This is absolutely true, it shows how hard you’ve been working on the game, and more importantly the champion you have been playing for many years.
Overall, I think Eternals definitely benefits players who have a more defined champion pool or more specifically, players that are one-trick. These are the players that are going to want to flex how well they have been doing on their favorite champion, and if you only play a few games here and there, the stats will not look as impressive as someone who only plays a specific champion. As for the Eternals series, I think if you’re playing a small number of champions, buying the packs for these champions is a great additional way to showcase your skill.
