The Pokémon Trading Card Game is taking fans back to the Unova region with the upcoming Black Bolt and White Flare sets and it’s bringing the forces of nature with it. Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus are the stars of the latest card reveals, each appearing with stunning new artwork and special rarities exclusive to the Japanese release.
Set to launch on June 6, Black Bolt and White Flare will introduce over 172 new cards, all themed around Generation 5 Pokémon. This seventh expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era will debut a brand-new card rarity known as BWR (Black & White Rare), new holofoil treatment featuring Pokémon illustrations set against unique, stylized backgrounds.
Each of the Legendary trio will be split between the two sets:
Booster boxes will come in two formats: a standard 7-card pack (with two holos guaranteed), and a deluxe 35-card pack that ensures one AR rarity or higher. The set follows The Glory of Team Rocket, which launched in April and focused on the franchise's classic villains.
Looking ahead, Japan will receive another major drop post-Black Bolt and White Flare, with Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia, two Mega Evolution-themed sets adding another 126+ cards. Meanwhile, Western fans can gear up for the Destined Rivals expansion on May 30, featuring more than 240 cards.
