The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could be receiving its big new DLC almost a decade since its initial release. The rumors broke originally in a Polish podcast but later received affirmations from Insider Gaming and MeriStation. According to insiders, development of the expansion has been left in the charge of Fool’s Theory — the same developer working on the first Witcher game’s remake.

What We Know About the DLC

Based on reports from sources, the new expansion will be on par in terms of size with past big story add-ons — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. This will translate to new quests, characters, places, and an entire storyline that will be worth playing as a standalone campaign.

It's important to note that CD Projekt RED is working on The Witcher 4 and mod support for consoles these days. The new The Witcher 3 DLC is projected to be released later once mod support is implemented — probably no sooner than 2026.

Who is working on the expansion

The development of the project is in the hands of Fool’s Theory — a Polish developer that consists of veteran game developers previously involved in The Witcher 2, The Witcher 3, and other big titles. It adds legitimacy to the quality of content that will be released, even though the company is indirectly associated with CDPR.

The expansion has yet to be formally released, but the rumors appear genuine and are in keeping with CDPR’s pattern of extended support for its titles — as with Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC in the form of Phantom Liberty.

A new DLC for The Witcher 3 does seem to be in development — by Fool’s Theory this time around. It’s set to be an extensive release and will probably be available in 2026 at the earliest. Official confirmation is not available just yet, but fans can certainly watch out for further updates.
