PSA: Popular Mods for Schedule 1 Found Infected with Malware

Hundreds of thousands of players in Schedule 1 have been warned to check their computers for viruses, as two popular mods for the game have been officially recognized as infected with a dangerous trojan. This information appeared on Reddit and the game's official Discord channel.

The infected mods were 'Increased Stack Size Limit' and 'Backpack Mod Reuploaded'. Both were uploaded to Nexus Mods by a user with the nickname FroggyP1, whose account, according to community reports, was sold to another owner. It was this new owner who added malicious code to the mods and uploaded the updates late on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Although these infected mods have already been removed from Nexus Mods, security experts and community moderators strongly advise anyone who managed to download them to take immediate action. Specifically, delete the mods, scan the computer with a reliable antivirus, and change all online passwords—but only after completely removing the virus.

“If you haven't updated your mod after April 11 at 10:29 PM, you likely dodged a bullet. However, we still strongly recommend deleting these files and checking your system”, reads one of the warnings on Reddit.

This incident occurred amid the skyrocketing popularity of Schedule 1. The cartel simulator not only topped sales, surpassing even high-profile releases like Monster Hunter Wilds, but also sparked a wave of requests for a console version of the game. At the same time, the game's active mod scene has become a serious issue.

Mods for Schedule 1 are incredibly popular: they add new features, enhance the interface, and do not provide advantages in multiplayer. However, the recent case once again underscores the seriousness of security issues among PC game mods.

Moreover, this is not the first such incident. In recent months, malware was also found in two games on Steam—PirateFi and Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution. Both successfully bypassed Steam's checks, just as the infected mods for Schedule 1 did.

The FroggyP1 account has already been blocked on Nexus Mods, but this incident has served as a serious lesson for gamers worldwide.

Players are advised to be extremely cautious when downloading mods and to use files only from verified authors. The Schedule 1 community, which was recently celebrating the game's immense success, has now received a stern reminder of the cardinal rule of modding: always be cautious.
