Overwatch 3: Blizzard’s Mobile MOBA in the Works - All Details

Blizzard Entertainment is shaking things up once again and this time, it’s taking Overwatch into uncharted territory. According to a new report from Korean outlet MTN, the studio is developing a mobile-only MOBA version of Overwatch in collaboration with Nexon, internally dubbed Overwatch 3. That’s right, not just a mobile port, but a full-fledged, genre-shifting evolution of the hero shooter we all know.

Overwatch Goes MOBA And Mobile

Rather than offering a scaled-down replica of Overwatch 2, Blizzard appears to be crafting an entirely new experience from the ground up. Insiders suggest Overwatch 3 will lean heavily into MOBA mechanics, meaning players can expect a top-down view, lanes, towers, and a more strategic team-based meta.

The game has reportedly been in development for several years and if the name “Overwatch 3” is any indication, it may represent the franchise’s next major leap rather than just a spin-off. Notably, journalist Jason Schreier mentioned the project in his book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, stating it was originally meant to launch alongside Overwatch 2 but faced delays.

Blizzard x Nexon

As part of this surprise development, Blizzard has entrusted Nexon with publishing rights for Overwatch Mobile in Korea and Japan, while also handing over development rights for a new StarCraft game. Nexon, known for hits like The Finals and MapleStory, reportedly beat out Korean giants NCSoft, Netmarble, and Krafton in a competitive bidding war to secure the deal. While official details from Blizzard are still under wraps, the partnership suggests that both companies are betting big on the mobile gaming space and regional market dominance.

What Comes Next

Blizzard has yet to make a public statement, but between trusted industry sources and rising hype in the community, Overwatch and StarCraft fans have good reason to be excited. If Overwatch 3 lives up to its ambition, it could redefine what a franchise sequel looks like, not through a console release, but by conquering the mobile MOBA space.
