Sony is bringing the nostalgia and the noise with its latest PlayStation 5 system software update, which starts rolling out globally from April 24. Two long-requested features are finally making their way to the console: Audio Focus and the return of classic PlayStation UI customizations.
For players who love to fine-tune their audio experience, Sony’s new Audio Focus feature is a game-changer. Designed to enhance immersion and accessibility, this tool lets users amplify specific sound frequencies while using headphones or headsets. Whether it’s footsteps creeping up behind you in a stealth game or party chat voices getting drowned out during intense firefights, audio focus lets you take control.
Here’s how it works:
1. You can enable Audio Focus from Settings > Sound > Volume > Audio Focus, or quickly access it via the Control Center mid-game.
2. Choose from four preset sound boosts:
3. Each preset can be fine-tuned from Weak, Medium, to Strong, and you can even adjust the left and right channel balance independently.
It’s worth noting this feature is exclusive to headphones connected via USB or analog jack, no HDMI support for now.
If you loved the limited-time throwback during PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary, you’re not alone. Sony heard the fans loud and clear and is officially bringing back classic UI designs for the PS5 home screen, paying tribute to the legacy of the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The feature, now dubbed Appearance, allows users to transform the modern PS5 UI with a vintage flair. Dive into your favorite generation’s look and bring that classic PlayStation energy right to your home screen. You’ll find it under Settings > Appearance, bundled alongside sound personalization for easy access.
