Lego and Nintendo have once again joined forces to celebrate the golden age of portable gaming. On July 24, 2025, they officially unveiled the Lego Game Boy set — a detailed replica of the iconic 1989 handheld console. Scheduled for release on October 1, the set is already available for pre-order. This isn’t just another Lego kit — it’s a true collector’s item for retro gaming fans, enthusiasts, and adult Nintendo followers.
The model consists of 421 pieces and recreates the Game Boy at nearly life-size: approximately 14 cm tall, 9 cm wide, and 3 cm thick. All the familiar elements here are the A and B buttons, D-pad, Start and Select buttons, volume and contrast dials, power switch, speaker grille, and even the removable battery cover.
Everything graphical is printed onto bricks themselves Lego HAS made a deliberate effort not to include stickers for this set, improving its quality and resell value for collectors.
One of its most striking elements is that it consists of three replaceable lenticular screens that provide motion illusion when viewed from different angles.
The set includes screens showing the Game Boy start-up screen, a scene from Super Mario Land, and an image of Link and Marin from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. These screens are not just decorative — they can be manually swapped and inserted into the console body, adding an interactive touch.
Lego has also included two miniature Game Pak cartridges: Super Mario Land and Link’s Awakening. Each has its own display stand and can also be inserted into the back of the model — just like real cartridges.
The set is priced at $60 in the US, €60 in Europe, and £54.99 in the UK, making it one of the most affordable special Lego x Nintendo sets to date. For comparison, earlier collaborations included the NES set for $270 and The Legend of Zelda: Great Deku Tree set priced at $300.
Unlike most children’s Lego sets, this one is aimed at an 18+ audience. It’s not a toy but a collectible designed with adult gamers in mind — those who grew up with Nintendo titles. It’s perfect for display, looks authentic, and makes a great addition to any gaming collection.
The Lego Game Boy is more than just nostalgia in brick form. It’s a clever blend of retro aesthetics, Lego’s engineering craftsmanship, and Nintendo’s cultural legacy. Whether you once held the original Game Boy in your hands or simply appreciate gaming history, this set is an ideal way to relive your childhood.
The official release is set for October 1, 2025. Pre-orders are now open on the official Lego website and through partner retailers.
