Fortnite Chapter 6: New Mechanics, Map, Bosses, and More

Epic Games introduced the long-awaited trailers for Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 1 — "Hunters," showcasing a new season filled with exciting content and intriguing possibilities. With a vibrant Japanese theme and a host of new features, the cinematic and gameplay trailers give a glimpse of what players can expect in this new chapter.

When does Chapter 6 start?

Fortnite Chapter 6 will begin on December 1, 2024, following the conclusion of the Chapter 2 Remix final event on November 30. Epic Games plans to disable servers after the event for the update implementation. Below you can find the update release schedule based on your region:

  • Pacific Time (PT): 3:00 AM

  • Eastern Time (ET): 6:00 AM

  • United Kingdom (GMT): 11:00 AM

  • Central Europe: 12:00 PM

  • India: 4:30 PM

  • Japan/Korea: 8:00 PM

  • Australia (AEDT): 10:00 PM

New map and bosses

The new map in Fortnite is a true visual masterpiece, combining traditional Japanese aesthetic elements with dynamic landscapes. Players will be able to explore bustling cities, snow-covered mountainous regions, serene Asian temples, and forests adorned with cherry blossoms.

The most discussed feature? A giant moving turtle that you can climb on and even hide among the trees on its back — this game element is reminiscent of Torterra from Pokémon.

Moreover, the upcoming update will see the return of the train, which was first introduced in Chapter 5 Season 1, allowing mobility across Mega City.

The trailer also features Godzilla, who will become a new moving threat on the map, reminiscent of Doctor Doom in the finale of Chapter 5 Season 4. In addition, there are also two other potential bosses known on the map: a large samurai and a flying Demon Mask with red eyes.

New game mechanics

The gameplay trailer introduced a couple of new moves that expand the maneuverability in Fortnite, specifically:

  • Wall Jumps: players can bounce off walls — very ninja-like, which is essentially the upcoming theme.
  • Landing Rolls: fall damage can be reduced with a new stylish roll, providing more freedom of movement on the map.

It's unclear whether these abilities will be available to everyone or tied to specific items, but they promise to improve mobility and tactical opportunities for players.

New weapons and items

Fortnite Chapter 6 will bring a new arsenal for combat. Melee combat fans will be delighted with the return of the Kinetic Blade, as well as the introduction of the Masamune Blade — a melee weapon with massive potential. Besides this, the update will add:

  • a new shotgun;
  • an improved assault rifle;
  • a powerful submachine gun;
  • weapon modifications that alter characteristics such as recoil or magazine capacity.

New elemental spirits also appear. These creatures, scattered across the map, provide unique bonuses — for instance, water spirits can heal and protect players at critical moments.

Demon Masks and Mythical Abilities

A special innovation of the season is Demon Masks. This mechanic allows players to harness supernatural powers. In one of the trailer's scenes, a player is shown putting on a mask to launch fireballs, scorching enemies.

These masks promise to add variety to the gameplay and the ability to change the course of the match. Most likely, this item drops after defeating the corresponding boss on the map, as mentioned earlier.

Battle Pass and Skins

The Fortnite Chapter 6 Battle Pass offers unique skins inspired by the same Japanese theme. Players will be able to unlock a young samurai, a cybercat, and other intriguing characters, including Baymax from Big Hero 6. The season also features skins inspired by yokai from Japanese folklore. Judging by the poster, up to 7 new skins can be expected.

The price of the Battle Pass has slightly increased: the standard pass now costs 1000 V-Bucks (instead of 950), and the upgraded Battle Bundle can be purchased for 2800 V-Bucks. Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive additional bonuses, including access to the Music Pass and LEGO Pass.

Return of Fortnite OG

For longtime fans, a significant event will be the return of the Fortnite OG mode on December 6. This mode allows for a re-experiencing of the vibes of the original Chapter 1 map, along with its iconic weapons and items. It will be available in both Build and Zero Build modes.

The upcoming Fortnite Chapter 6 promises to be very interesting, bringing a wealth of fresh content to satisfy both long-time fans of the game and attract a new audience.
