Paradox Interactive and PDS Black have released update 1.17.0.1 for Crusader Kings III, along with a long-awaited message from the studio’s QA manager, Riad, who personally apologized to players for the issues with the Coronations DLC.
Apology from the Studio
Riad openly admitted that the release of Coronations did not meet fan expectations. According to him, the main reason was limited resources, as the team was focused on developing the large All Under Heaven expansion.

“As the studio’s QA manager, my job is to ensure that releases meet the proper standards. We did not allocate enough resources for Coronations, and the result disappointed you. We acknowledge this and are doing everything to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Riad wrote.
The studio promises to plan resource allocation more carefully, test the game at all stages of development, and limit last-minute changes to avoid similar issues in the future.

What’s Fixed in Update 1.17.0.1
The update focuses on fixing bugs and balance issues in Coronations:
- Fixed the Oathbreaker event, which triggered regardless of whether the oath had been kept.
- Reduced requirements for special buildings needed to fulfill three “building” oaths (from level 3 to level 2).
- Reduced costs and modifiers for special buildings and simplified their triggers.
- Increased the time available to fulfill oaths: some are now available for 20–50 years instead of 10–20.
- Lowered requirements for the alliance oath and the Legendary Hunt oath.
- Fixed issues in the Prepare Heir decision, removing the gold penalty.
- Added new AI modifiers so that AI characters choose oaths more logically.
- Disabled building oaths for nomads and tribes.
- Fixed bugs related to spiritual and secular heads of faith during coronations.
The studio also notes that another update for Coronations is planned to address additional issues that could not be fixed in time due to limited resources.
