In July, Mojang released the first part of the third Game Drop update of 2025, and the most exciting news is the return of the Copper Golem. This fan-favorite mob, which lost the 2021 vote, is finally making its way into the game along with a whole range of new features. The update is already available for testing in Bedrock Beta and Preview, and the Java version will receive it soon.

The Copper Golem is a new helper that can be summoned by placing a carved pumpkin or Jack-o’-lantern on a copper block. A special copper chest appears next to it. The golem’s main feature is automatic item sorting — it transfers items from its own chest to nearby containers without the need for any complex redstone mechanics.

Like copper blocks, the golem oxidizes over time, changing its appearance. If you want to keep it at a certain stage, use wax.

Copper Chests

Copper chests can be crafted from copper ingots after obtaining your first one alongside the golem. They also oxidize but retain their functionality. They're easy to integrate into sorting systems, making them ideal for players who don’t want to rely on redstone.

Copper Gear

The biggest surprise of the update is that copper now becomes a full gear tier. Tools, weapons, and armor made from copper have stats that fall between stone and iron equivalents. For example, a copper pickaxe mines slightly faster and lasts longer than a stone one but can’t harvest new materials — you’ll still need iron for that.

This decision adds real value to mining copper in the early stages of the game. Thanks to its abundance, players no longer have to take risks searching for iron with only basic gear.

When to Expect It

The update is already available in Bedrock Beta and Preview. The Java version is expected to get it soon. Mojang has also released a developer diary explaining how the copper golem was created.

Minecraft is finally making copper a meaningful part of gameplay. New chests, automated sorting, gear, and the return of a fan-favorite mob make the July update one of the most exciting of 2025.
