Unfinished Business Quest Walkthrough in Oblivion Remastered

"Unfinished Business" is one of the early quests in the Fighter's Guild storyline in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. It reveals the first hints of internal issues within the organization and offers the player a moral choice that will influence the further development of the plot. At the heart of the events is Maglir, a controversial member of the guild who failed a contract, and now it is up to you to fix the situation. This quest combines investigation, cave exploration, and a difficult choice between truth and loyalty.

How to Start the Quest

After completing previous Fighter's Guild quests (including The Desolate Mine), speak with Vilena Donton at the guild in the city of Chorrol. She will direct you to Modryn Oreyn, who will inform you that one of the guild members, Maglir, failed a contract in the city of Skingrad. Your task is to find Maglir and learn what happened.

Talking to Maglir

In Skingrad, head to the West Weald Inn, where Maglir can usually be found. He will explain that he failed the contract because, in his opinion, the payment was not worth the risk. He will offer you to complete the task in his stead. The goal is to find the journal of the researcher Brenus Astis, who died in the Fallen Rock Cave.

Fallen Rock Cave

The cave is located to the northwest of Skingrad. Inside, you will face fights with undead, especially liches, skeletons, and zombified creatures. When you reach the flooded room, look for a platform with the body of Brenus Astis and the journal beside him. Take the journal and return.

Dialogue Choice with Modryn Oreyn

Upon returning to Modryn, you will have two options:

  • Tell the truth — say that Maglir abandoned the task. In this case, you will gain a reputation bonus with the guild, but Maglir will not assist you in the next quest.
  • Lie — say that Maglir completed the contract. This will maintain good relations with him, and he will later help you in the mission in Bravil, but you will not receive a reputation bonus.

The choice does not affect the amount of gold you receive — the reward depends on your character's level, not the dialogue.

Consequences

This quest highlights the internal problems and moral decline within the Fighter's Guild. Your decision shows how much your character values honor and affects certain dialogues and future actions of Maglir. If you do not expose his lie, he will appear later as an ally. If you do, he will become a hostile character.

This quest is not difficult but requires attention to both the choices you make and the battles with undead in the cave. The decision you make reveals your hero's character and may alter the course of future events in the Fighter's Guild storyline. Although both paths lead to the completion of the quest, the moral aspect makes it one of the more memorable ones in the game.
