Getting a rare pet in Steal an Egg is only part of the grind. Mutations can push that pet’s earnings much higher, making them one of the most important upgrades to understand if you want to progress faster. From common rolls like Silver and Golden to rarer options such as Rainbow, Spirit Bloom, and newer mutation types, this guide breaks down every mutation, its reported multiplier, and the best way to get it.
How Mutations Work in Steal an Egg
Mutations are special modifiers that change a pet’s appearance and usually increase how much Money per second it earns. They’re separate from pet size: weight determines a pet’s base income, while mutations boost that income afterward.
Because of this, strong mutations are much more valuable on large, high-income pets than on weaker ones. If you’re deciding where to invest a rare mutation, your best pet is usually the obvious pick.
Some mutations can also stack on the same pet. However, their listed multipliers don’t necessarily multiply directly with each other. Mutation bonuses appear to be combined separately before the pet’s final income is calculated, and there’s currently no complete official formula or multiplier table available.

All Steal an Egg Mutations and Multipliers
Steal an Egg originally launched with five commonly known mutations: Silver, Bloom, Golden, Rainbow, and Spirit Bloom. Later updates added Monstrous/Parasite and the newer Fractured mutation.
Mutation | Multiplier / Effect | How to Get |
Silver | 1.25x | Random mutated egg / fusion |
Bloom | 1.5x | Sakura Incubator |
Golden | 2x | Random mutated egg / fusion |
Rainbow | 2.5x | Random mutated egg / fusion |
Spirit Bloom | 3x | Sakura Incubator |
Monstrous / Parasite | 3x | Monster Chest Reward |
Fractured | +10% | Boss Shop |

Monstrous / Parasite Mutation
The Monstrous mutation can appear as a rare reward from the Monster Chest, with the reward panel listing it at a 1.5% chance. In the game’s internal data, Monstrous appears to be tied to the mutation displayed as Parasite, with a reported 3x income multiplier. The reward applies to an egg selected from the Titan Temple pool.
Fractured Mutation
Fractured was added with the Rift content and comes from the Mutation Consumable sold in the Boss Shop. The consumable costs 400 Boss Tokens and is generally described as giving a pet +10% Money.
The item’s 10% label is still somewhat unclear, though. It may refer to the mutation’s income bonus rather than its application chance, so it shouldn’t be treated as a confirmed 10% success rate unless the game makes that explicit.

How to Get Mutations in Steal an Egg
Mutations in Steal an Egg come from several different systems. The original mutations mostly came from random eggs and the Sakura Incubator, while newer updates added Boss Shop consumables and event-specific rewards.

Random Mutated Eggs and Fusion
Silver, Golden, and Rainbow can appear through normal egg activity. Their shell effects let you spot the mutation before hatching, so checking an egg first can save you from wasting a run on something you don’t want.
Of the three, Rainbow is the rarest and generally the most valuable roll. The Fuse Machine can also produce mutated results.
Sakura Incubator
Bloom and Spirit Bloom came from the Sakura Incubator in the Cherry Blossom biome. Unlocking the system requires a Crane, while Incubator rolls use Sakura Crystals earned during the Great Bloom event.
Bloom was the more common result, while Spirit Bloom was the rare roll. The Sakura Incubator’s current availability is less clear, as the Great Bloom mutation loop appears to have been tied to limited-time content. If you’re specifically farming Bloom or Spirit Bloom, check whether the Incubator is active in your current server before grinding for a Crane or Sakura resources.

Monster Chests
Monstrous, also associated with the Parasite mutation, was obtained through Monster Chests. Players had to feed five infested eggs to the Hungry Monster to receive a chest, with the reward pool showing a 1.5% chance for the Monstrous Mutation egg reward.
Since the Hungry Monster was tied to limited-time content, Monstrous is best treated as an event mutation rather than something you can normally roll from standard eggs.

Boss Shop Mutation Consumable
The Fractured mutation comes from the Mutation Consumable sold in the Boss Shop for 400 Boss Tokens. It’s used on an unhatched egg to apply Fractured. Boss Tokens are earned by defeating the Abyss Overlord during Rift encounters, making Fractured more of a boss-progression mutation than a random egg roll.

How Fusion Works With Mutations
The Fuse Machine consumes three copies of the same pet species and gives you a new egg of that species with its size rerolled. It’s handy for clearing duplicates or gambling on a stronger pet, but fusion isn’t a guaranteed upgrade—the result can actually be smaller than the pets you sacrificed.
Mutations make fusion even riskier. The safest method is to fuse three identical pets with the same mutation. This appears to preserve the mutation on the resulting pet while giving you another shot at rolling a better size.
Avoid tossing a valuable mutated pet into a random fusion. Mixing one mutated pet with normal versions can cause the mutation to disappear, which makes rare variants like Rainbow, Spirit Bloom, Fractured, or Monstrous especially risky to sacrifice.
If you’ve got a rare mutation you don’t want to lose, only fuse it when you have the matching mutated copies and you’re confident the trade is worth it.

Best Mutations to Target at Each Stage
For normal progression, Rainbow is the mutation to look out for. It’s the strongest standard roll among Silver, Golden, and Rainbow, and you can get it through regular gameplay without relying on a special event or mutation system.
Once you reach Cherry Blossom, check whether the Sakura Incubator is active on your server. If Bloom and Spirit Bloom are still obtainable, Spirit Bloom is the big prize and the better mutation to land on a high-income egg. Since the Great Bloom content may not always be available, though, don’t treat Spirit Bloom as a guaranteed part of progression.
For players pushing through Rift content, Fractured is one of the easiest mutations to target deliberately. Its Mutation Consumable lets you choose which unhatched egg to upgrade instead of waiting for a lucky natural roll. At 400 Boss Tokens, it’s best saved for one of your strongest eggs rather than something you’ll replace a few runs later.
Existing Spirit Bloom and Monstrous pets are also worth hanging onto, especially when their original event methods aren’t available. Rare and limited mutations are the last pets you want to gamble away in a sketchy fusion attempt.
