If you want to win fights and cultivate an effective team of Pals, you must understand the Palworld type chart. Each Pal in the game has to one or more Elements that dictate the damage output and damage received in battle. Knowing how to exploit certain matchups by Elements makes it easier to win fights.

Palworld Type Chart
There are nine different Elements, each one having different aspects to it. This pallet chart encompasses the nine Elements each having different attributes that go into effect when creating matchups. Below are the Palworld elements in text format.
Dark-type Pals take more damage from Dragon-type attacks, but do more damage to Neutral-type Pals.
Dragon-type Pals can overpower Dark-types, but tend to take more damage from Ice-type Pals.
Electric-type Pals are more advantageous to Water-type Pals, therefore making them the best contender in water-based fights. However, they take more damage from Ground-type Pals.
Fire-type Pals tend to be more effective by reducing the health of Grass and Ice-type Pals. They tend to be more muted in fights when Water-type Pals enter the fight.
Grass Pals are strong against Ground-types and counter them well, though they're vulnerable to Fire-type attacks.
Ground-type Pals counter Electric-types and disable their attacks, though they have issues with Grass-types.
Ice-type Pals are excellent against Dragon-types, which makes them great for late-game battles, though they are also vulnerable to Fire-type attacks.
Neutral-type Pals have no offensive advantages against other elements, but they do take more damage from Dark-type attacks.
Water-type Pals are strong against Fire-types, which makes them great to use in volcanic/fire-heavy places, though they are weak to Electric-type attacks.

Differences Compared to Similar Element Systems
Players who know about Pokémon-style combat systems will notice a lot of familiar elements, but Palworld has a few notable differences. Fire stands out with two offensive advantages and only one weakness, making it one of the strongest. Neutral is also a bit out of the ordinary, with no strengths and serves as a more defensive element or a friendly element for beginners. The entire system is a lot more streamlined and simplistic, making it easier to learn but still requiring a bit of finesse thinking to make a system work.Finding a Pal's Element
Being able to accurately find a Pal's Element while exploring will make things a lot easier! When you are looking at a Pal's name, description, Paldeck, or Pal Information menu, you will see an element beside it. If you equip your Pals with the right elements before you start the battle, you will be able to make better decisions and not be put in harm's way.

Constructing a Flexible and Balanced Team
Try your best to make a diverse team that includes a lot of elements. To fully construct a team for every possible scenario that could happen, you will need to anticipate combat Palworld presents to a player. Make sure to carry Pals in your Pal Box at all times so that you can substitute anytime you need to in order to use an Element that counters your combat team. Since your character may also take damages from Pal's attack, the elements will not only be of offensive determination, and you will also need a strong defense.

Being able to adapt and prepare for combat is going to set you apart for how effective of a player you will be. Understanding the type chart and elements is not going to take a lot of time, but Pals only carry a limited number of elements and the interactions that those elements will have will be fully readying you for combat to a number of challenges that Palworld will present.
