Senior students of Spirit Ash manipulations and casual players looking for respite from relentless sword fighting brunt forces will agree: Revenant is a strategic unlock.

Who Is the Revenant?

Before we dive into the steps, it’s worth knowing what makes Revenant such a compelling pick. She’s the summoner archetype of Nightreign, specializing in commanding Spirit Ashes to overwhelm enemies while staying safely at mid-range. But don’t be fooled, she’s no passive caster. Revenant can also wield blades and spectral whips, making her deadly in close combat if built correctly.

How to Unlock Revenant

Step 1: Unlock Duchess First

You won’t even have the option to begin Revenant’s path unless you’ve unlocked Duchess, another playable character in Nightreign. Duchess’s questline must be completed before progressing. If you haven’t tackled that yet, head back and complete her arc first.

Step 2: Go to the Small Jar Bazaar (Roundtable Hold)

Once Duchess is unlocked, head to the Small Jar Bazaar inside the Roundtable Hold, a hub area you'll likely be familiar with if you’ve been grinding Murk. There, a new item will appear: the Besmirched Frame.

• Cost: 1,500 Murk
• Tip: You can farm Murk through Expeditions. Target a Night Lord boss if you're in need of a boost, these provide the best Murk returns.

Step 3: Interact with the Phantom

After buying the Besmirched Frame, make your way to the eastern hall of Roundtable Hold. There you’ll see a phantom waiting.

• Before interacting, switch to your strongest character, the one you've leveled and geared to the teeth. You’ll want all the power you can get.
• Interact with the phantom and confirm: “Would you like to touch the phantom?” Select Yes.

Step 4: Return to the Past

You’ll be teleported back to the tutorial area, a nostalgic and eerie moment. Head toward the ruined arena where you first faced the Fell Omen. Waiting for you is the Revenant, now appearing as the Night Idol.

Step 5: Defeat the Revenant

This is no easy boss fight. Revenant is agile, aggressive, and fights with both Spirit Ash summons and melee techniques. She mirrors the type of gameplay you’ll eventually unlock.

• Recommendation: Bring consumables that resist spectral damage and summon allies if allowed.
• Important: Losing the fight does not reset your level or stats, so don’t worry about penalties, just return and try again.

Upon victory, Revenant will swear revenge (classic Soulsborne energy), but you’ll unlock her as a fully playable character.
