Think you’ve mastered every twist and turn in Mario Kart World? Think again. If you’re craving more chaos and challenge, Mirror Mode is the ultimate remix, flipping every track so left turns become right, and your muscle memory becomes your worst enemy. But unlocking this mode isn’t as easy as just drifting your way through a few easy cups. You’ll need to work for it.
Mirror Mode flips every course horizontally, meaning all the tracks you’ve memorized will feel completely unfamiliar. It’s a fan-favorite challenge mode for veteran racers, testing your adaptability and forcing you to unlearn what you know. In Mario Kart World, unlocking this mode requires completing a mix of standard races and exploration-based Free Roam objectives.
To switch on Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, start by completing every Grand Prix Cup and Knockout Tour Rally on 150cc. You don't even have to land in first place- crossing the finish line is all that counts. Doing so shows you've raced every course at top speed and gets you ready for the twisted, backwards versions.
After that, head out into Free Roam and clear ten P-Switch missions. The jobs kick off as soon as you roll over the big blue buttons topped with a glowing P symbol. Each task asks you to do something different, whether scooping up Blue Coins or crashing through barriers in a huge kart, and tackling them shows you the lay of the land and basic controls.
You'll need to track down 10 yellow Question Mark Panels during Free-Roam play. They hide in the maps, usually tucked on rooftops, under old signs, or in corners you don't normally check. Each circuit has its own count, and your current haul shows up on the map screen.
On the next assignment you need to collect ten Peach Medallions, those chunky, gold coins marked with her crown. They're stuffed in odd nooks or balanced where a quick sprint wouldn't pass, so you end up checking every hidden corner. Since their trail overlaps with the P-Switch Missions, the tasks merge naturally and the game pats you on the back for exploring.
When everything else is done, simply finish and clear the Special Cup on 150cc. As the credit screen rolls, a brief cutscene plays, letting you know Mirror Mode is now open for every game mode.
First, collect ten Peach Medallions, finish ten P-Switch tasks, tap ten Question Mark panels while roaming freely, and sweep every 150cc Grand Prix Cup along with the Knockout Tour Rallies. Then replay the Special Cup at 150cc; after you cross the line on Rainbow Road and watch-or skip-the credits, a brief scene arrives. It is followed by an on-screen message confirming you have unlocked Mirror Mode. From now on, Mirror Mode sits beside 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc in both Grand Prix and Knockout Tour.
This only works in solo Free Roam, not in the multiplayer friend lobby.
Mirror Mode isn’t just a cosmetic gimmick, it’s a mind-bending remix of everything you thought you knew about Mario Kart World. And with these steps, you’ll be flipping tracks and confusing your friends in no time.
