How to Increase Hero Rank in Fortnite

In the sixth chapter of Fortnite's third season, one of the most intriguing additions is the Hero Rank. This system changes the usual gameplay approach, emphasizing a more aggressive playstyle and completing tasks within a single match. Every player starts the game at rank C and can climb to S+ before the last storm circle closes.

To obtain better loot, unique bonuses, and access to special zones on the map, it's important to understand how the Hero Rank works and how to quickly level it up.

What is the Hero Rank in Fortnite? Hero Rank Explained

Hero Rank is a progression system that only operates during the current match and was first introduced in the Fortnite Super season. Unlike regular experience or battle pass levels, the Hero Rank resets after each game. You start the match at rank C, and the goal is to perform heroic actions that increase your rank.

The current Hero Rank is displayed below the minimap during the match. For each rank increase, you receive an additional 100 units of effective health, enhancing your survivability in combat. Progress directly depends on your actions in the game: the more you do, the faster your Hero Rank in Fortnite grows.

In Fortnite Super, there are 5 Hero Ranks: C, D, A, S, and S+

Why does the Hero Rank matter in Fortnite?

Hero Ranks are not just a conditional status or indicator of how cool a player you are — it's a gameplay approach. A higher Hero Rank level grants access to Hero Caches — special loot capsules that appear on the map as your rank increases. The higher your level, the better the loot inside these containers.

In certain locations, such as Supernova Academy, a high rank grants access to Academy Tech Labs — restricted zones with the best gear you can acquire. They can only be opened after reaching a certain rank. However, to obtain some of the rewards inside the location, you need to spend gold bars.

How to Rank Up Your Hero in Fortnite

Now that we've understood the need for the ranking system, let's move on to the most important question — how to quickly increase this rank during a match. There are several ways to achieve the desired goal. Some are safe but slower. Others are risky but yield immediate results.

  • Eliminating other players (75/100 XP)

The most effective way to increase your rank is by eliminating opponents. For each elimination, you receive between 75 to 100 points, depending on the Hero Rank of your victim. If you eliminate a player with a high rank — for example, S or S+ — you can earn over 200 points at once. If you're confident in combat, this is the best path to quickly gaining experience for the Hero Rank.

  • Defeating bosses (1,500 XP) and henchmen (25 XP)

AI-controlled opponents also provide points. Killing henchmen gives about 25 points each. Since they are very easy targets, they are great for the early stages of the game. Bosses, on the other hand, are dangerous, but defeating them earns you 1500 XP immediately. If you already have decent gear, this is an excellent way to quickly climb the ranks.

  • Completing heroic tasks (250 XP)

New interactive tasks have appeared on the map, specifically designed for advancing in Hero Ranks. For example, transporting a Sprite to a Shrine or destroying a Scout Spire awards 250 XP. These actions are less dangerous than PvP and are suitable for players who like to plan and act cautiously.

  • Surviving storm phases (100 XP, +25XP)

If you avoid fights, you can increase your Hero Rank simply by surviving. The first storm circle gives 100 XP, each subsequent one adds 25 more. If you survive five to six phases, that's hundreds of safe points. However, this is a very slow and not very effective method, more of a supplement to the main path.

  • Completing trials at Supernova Academy

The Supernova Academy location is ideal for leveling up Hero Rank. At the center of Supernova Academy are Hero Training — time-limited combat trials that provide large amounts of XP. Completing them early in the game can quickly earn you several ranks. This is especially useful if you're aiming to reach S+.
