How to Get Thick Hide in V Rising

Among the various resources in V Rising, you can find Thick Hide, which is essential for crafting certain items. If you haven't encountered it yet or don't know how to use it, this guide will tell you everything you need to know. Specifically, within the game, there is a difference between Thick Hide and Thick Leather.

Where to Find Thick Hide in V Rising

In the game's initial zones, particularly in Farbane Woods, you won't find Thick Hide. To start gathering it, you need to head to the next regions — specifically Dunley Farmlands and Hallowed Mountains.

Animals that drop this resource reside there. In Dunley Farmlands, you'll encounter cows and sheep on human farms. Dogs also roam there, usually accompanying patrols or serving as guards in some camps. These creatures are easy to defeat, and each consistently provides about 20 units of Thick Hide.

If you head northeast to Hallowed Mountains, you'll meet stronger opponents, but the reward will be about the same. Here, you can hunt ice wolves, moose, and arctic bears. They also yield 20 units of hide but are much more aggressive and resilient than the livestock from the Dunley area. However, there are many such animals in this zone, making it a good place for quick hide farming — provided your gear is strong enough to handle the danger.

For the most efficient Thick Hide gathering, start your journey from Dunley Farmlands and move eastward. Clear farms and camps on your way to Hallowed Mountains. Once you finish the snowy region, return through the estates back to your castle, collecting additional resources on the way back.

How to Use Thick Hide

How to Unlock Thick Leather in V Rising

Thick Hide is useless on its own. To make it useful, you need to process it into Thick Leather at the Tannery. But first, you need to unlock the recipe. To do this, find and defeat one of the V Blood bosses — Frostmaw the Mountain Terror, who roams the Hallowed Mountains area. After defeating him, you'll receive the Thick Leather recipe and can start production.

How to Craft Thick Leather in V Rising

To craft one unit of Thick Leather, you need 16 units of Thick Hide and 1 portion of oil, which can be obtained using the Blood Press by placing fish into it. This structure also allows you to get fish bones. Once you've gathered the necessary ingredients, simply fill the Tannery and give it time to process the resources.

How to Unlock the Tannery

If you don't have this structure, here's a hint on how to unlock it:

  1. Defeat the boss Keely the Frost Archer in the Farbane Woods location.
  2. Obtain the Tannery blueprint from him.
  3. Build the Tannery in any location of your castle.
  4. Use the Tannery to process hides.

What Thick Leather is Used for in V Rising

Once you have enough Thick Leather, a new level of crafting opens up. The most powerful armor sets — such as Duskwatcher, Blood Hunter, Dark Magus, and Crimson Templar — require this resource.

Typically, each piece of armor requires 8 units of Thick Leather. Additionally, you'll also need Hollowfang armor, so it's worth stocking up on cotton yarn and wool thread in advance.

Thick Leather is also necessary for more advanced crafting: it's used in creating fabric and empty water flasks — key resources for potions and other enhancements. Even a saddle for your vampire horse requires Thick Leather.
