The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster has retained all the core mechanics from the original 2006 game, including the ability to fast travel between locations, which significantly simplifies visiting specific places. If you've forgotten or are unaware of how to fast travel in Oblivion Remastered, this article will explain this mechanic and how it works.
How Fast Travel Works in TES IV: Oblivion Remastered
First, you should know a few nuances about how the fast travel system works in Oblivion. Before you can teleport to a desired location in Oblivion Remastered, you need to "discover" this location first (that is, visit it for the first time by passing by or entering it). Otherwise, it won't work.
You can use a horse to increase your endurance and speed up the exploration of Cyrodiil's areas. However, even at the start of the game, you can teleport to the main major cities available on the map (Imperial City, Bruma, etc.).

Fast Travel in Oblivion Remastered
Using the fast travel feature in TES IV: Oblivion is very simple. To do this:
- Open the map by pressing the M key on your keyboard (or another key if you're playing on a gamepad).

- Click on the image of a visited location where you've already been (city, tavern, fortress, etc.).

- A notification will appear, asking you to confirm your desire to move to the specified point. Click the "Yes" button.

- After this, fast travel will occur (loading, as during game saving), and you will find yourself at the specified location.

Why Fast Travel Doesn't Work
However, in TES: Oblivion Remastered, there are several conditions under which you won't be able to teleport to the desired point:
- Enclosed space/room. If you are inside a house, cave, dungeon, or another location with enclosed space that you entered through a loading screen, the fast travel feature will not work, and you will receive a notification about this.
- Overburdened. If your character is overburdened, you will not be able to walk or use the fast travel feature until you drop the excess weight.
- Enemies nearby. Fast travel is unavailable if there are enemies near you, especially if they are in attack or combat status with you. If this is the case, you will hear the corresponding musical accompaniment. Once the danger is eliminated, calm, soothing music will play again.
- During certain storyline quests. While playing the game, you will often be in locations or unique scenes that cannot be interrupted, so you will not be able to use fast travel. To restore this ability, you need to complete the task or leave the boundaries of the unique location.
- Vampirism. If your character is infected with vampirism, you can still use fast travel, but there's a catch: if the character arrives at another location during the day, they will automatically die (as vampires burn in the sun, losing health). Therefore, you should first cure vampirism to travel safely.
Teleportation in TES IV: Oblivion
Technically, fast travel cannot be called teleportation per se, as this journey implies that the hero automatically covers the necessary distance to the location, taking time (the time of day will change if the distance was significant).

However, the game does have specific teleports (portals), usually available in the main rooms of the Mages Guild leaders. These portals will transport you to a particular place linked to that teleport, so you cannot choose where you want to go. Nevertheless, this is also a form of fast travel—just between designated points needed for certain quests or world exploration.
